Minnesotans live in the second healthiest state in the United States,
primarily because of the state's emphasis on quality health care and
healthy lifestyle choices. In this land where outdoor activities include
all four seasons, Minnesota has the second highest life expectancy and the
second lowest infant mortality rate. Most children are immunized against
disease and less than a quarter of the adult population smokes. In fact,
only Hawaii is considered to have a healthier population.
The good health of Minnesota residents can be attributed, in part, to the
comprehensive health care available through the commitment of the state's
legislature. Created to combat escalating health care costs,
MinnesotaCare, a health-care program that limits increasing costs, creates
incentives for small businesses to provide insurance coverage for
employees and provides state-subsidized health coverage to uninsured
residents. MinnesotaCare has helped nearly 94,000 uninsured Minnesotans
in the past few years.
Health care in Minnesota concentrates heavily on advnacements within the
medical industry, which is why the state is commonly referred to as
"medical alley." With this emphasis on medical research, it's no wonder
that Minnesotans have a life expectancy of nearly 78 years.
As part of the state's excellent health care system, Apple Valley
residents have convenient access to two nearby community hospitals, a
variety of clinics and HMOs, and a coordinated network of emergency
services providing state-of-the-art medical services.
